Today West Central Assembly Member Tony Devenish called on the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to make every effort to tackle excessive tube noise throughout our city. Noise from the tube has been of increasing concern to local people and particularly with the lockdown having confined many to their homes, it is time the noise is effectively dealt with.
The Mayor has repeatedly given his assurance that he will combat the excessive vibration and noise emanating from the tube network but has so far failed to deliver any relief to local people for whom the noise has become a serious disruption.
The Mayor simply has not prioritised the needs of local people. The extent of the disruption for residents is clear, an overwhelming number of people have complained of the impact of excessive tube noise in recent months. Some locals have even been forced to vacate their homes because of the effect of nightly tube noise. Our city desperately needs an effective solution so that all this disruption can be minimised.
On the issue of tube noise, Tony said,
I am calling on the Mayor to take decisive action to deal with the disruption it has caused and give local people the peace and quality of life they deserve.
