Tony Devenish AM said
Good morning, Mr. Mayor. Congratulations on your reelection.
I'd like to fully support your call to build bridges with our government.
AM Rogers and I met with Government last night on Hammersmith Bridge.
It is clear that the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham needs all our help to reopen the bridge ASAP.
Will you please ask the deputy mayor to redouble efforts to help the London borough with Government to reopen the bridge as soon as possible, please?
The Mayor replied
Thanks for your question.
I know how inconvenient it's been. That's me being polite, to your constituents and many on both sides of the river.
And also, thanks to the way you, you raise the issue. I think it's really important for ourselves for the council, councils and the Government to work together, because in the meantime, local businesses, local residents are suffering hugely and I can give that commitment, to not just for the deputy mayor but myself to redouble our efforts, to get this bridge, at the very least, reopened for pedestrians and cyclists, and then eventually for vehicles as well.
